Courage the Cowardly Dog

"Profiles in Courage" is part two of the sixth episode of Season 4 of Courage the Cowardly Dog, following "Muriel Blows Up".

The episode was produced in 2002 and premiered on Cartoon Network in the United States on October 11 of that year.

Plot[]

Muriel, Eustace, and Courage visit the local Nowhere fair, where a Silhouette Maker resides in one of the booths. The Silhouette Maker deeply desires to make his art have form, and to give it life, yet his many attempts have always failed... However, when he spots the Bagges playing around on wacky mirrors, with Muriel remarking to Eustace if he "ever wondered how it would be like to be somebody else," he gets an idea... an idea that'll make his art truly life-like.

After the couple visit his booth and he gladly makes life-sized silhouettes of Muriel and Eustace, they take the art back to their farm house and hang it on the wall. When suddenly... both silhouettes gain a will of their own! Sucking the life-force out of the real couple and leaving only their husks behind, making their paper versions more closely resemble the actual Bagges.

Both of the silhouettes then try doing what Muriel and Eustace would typically do (such as making some tea or fixing the truck), but have a very hard time doing so given they're made of paper, and end up ripping some of their parts off, lamenting how "nobody ever wonders how it would be like to be made of people".

Seeing this, Courage puts them together by applying some glue, and shows them that being paper is fun by drawing all sorts of silly shapes on the Paper Bagges, then folding them into things like animals and paper planes. Once they realize how fun it is to be made of paper, they both go ahead and let Courage put them on Muriel and Eustace, making them both come back to life.

The Silhouette Maker then goes to the farm house in order to retrieve his art, but much to his surprise he finds his creations flying around like kites with Courage, and having fun while doing so! He's confused as to why they would be happy to be made of paper, so Courage shows him by letting him play with his paper children himself, as he watches them talk about how wonderful it is being paper.

The Silhouette Maker is moved by how happy they are, and thanks Courage for making his art be full of life in a diferent way, taking his creations back with him as they all laugh together. Eustace and Muriel then wake up to see that Courage has made some paper silhouettes of his own! And as Muriel asks how he learned to do that. Courage laughs and reveals that he's also made of paper before joyfully flopping on the floor, finishing the episode.
